The following comic was inspired by a quick 15 minute tan I got by just walking outside this week, all the rage comics I read all the time (if you don’t read them, I encourage you to check them out. http://ragecomics.memebase.com/), and memories of being in Miyazaki. We lived in a southern environment with temperatures much similar to my home in the states and getting a tan was easy there too. One thing I didn’t like was that some non-black people I knew kept talking about their tans and using me a point of comparison. My comic might suggest it really pissed me off, but it was more of an eye-roll worthy annoyance (just made me to say “bitch, please—look at my tan”).

I bought a few volumes of different manga I was behind on and read most of them while traveling last week. It was nice to see that I still could read things with generally no problem (although, I wish I had brought my dictionary, but I didn’t have any AAA batteries). I read the final volume of one series (was only 3 of them) called “He is Diablo!” (彼はディアボロ!) One page made me laugh out loud, which I tried not to do because it’s awkward reading comics in public when no one could understand what you’re reading. Anyway, two otaku girls from some anime club were taken off-guard during a fight because their opponent threw some doujinshi (fan-made books) at them. What was mostly funny about that was it was Reborn and Gintama based ones. Those are two of my favorite JUMP comics, so I appreciated the reference.

The scan is not great, mostly because I’m too lazy to actually edit it or bend my manga too much. Although this is a gag, there are many, many fan books about the Reborn/Gintama characters they mention. Even if you can’t read the Japanese, you can clearly make out Gintoki, Hijikata, Hibari, and Tsuna (or at least you could if my scanning was better—haha).
I went to see my friend for a few days last week, and she gave me this card. I actually thought it was from her nephews at first glance because she said we were going to see them soon. I haven’t seen crayon in a long time (I asked her to make sure it wasn’t colored pencil). There aren’t really many little kids in my family at the moment, so it’s not like I’ve gotten accustomed to random crayon drawings.
Anyway, my friend did this at work. I won’t show the message she wrote because I need not add any further sappiness to this post.

On another note, I rarely let others nickname me, but “Tin” is about the only one that has my “seal of approval.” It was made popular through my Japanese friends, and I grew to like it because it reminded me of those friends. Typically, no one outside of those friends use it, but the friend who made this card does. I call her “Double T” or “TT” depending on how much time/space I have. Haha.
Watching Ranma 1/2 again while I’m dong some sketching. Pretty sure I didn’t think about this as a kid, but now I wonder why so many boys wanted Akane. She ain’t that cute.

Then again, the stories wouldn’t work as well if Akane didn’t have an army of men after her.
